Travertine is a type of natural stone that forms around mineral spring deposits, particularly ones found in
limestone caves and hot springs with a distinctive and striking appearance. It is generated by the rapid
precipitation of calcium carbonate, which frequently occurs at the mouth of a hot spring or in a limestone
cave. Travertine comes in white, tan, cream-colored or beige, and even rusty variants (yellowish, reddish,
brown) and has a fibrous or concentric pattern.
Travertine is widely used as a building material due to its strength and ease of installation. Its strength is
light in weight, provides great thermal and acoustic insulation, and is reasonably easy to work with due to
its high porosity. Travertine is mainly used for both interior and exterior purposes. Due to its non-slip
coating, travertine is ideal for flooring, pavements, walkways, and pool coping.
Travertine comes in four basic styles or textures: Brushed travertine has a non-reflective finish due to wire
brush treatment. Tumbled travertine is treated to look old and rustic. Polished travertine is treated to
look Sparkly, stylish, and glossy. Honed travertine is treated to look half matte and glossy, giving it a
balanced, smooth finish.
